The City Walk Programme was initiated in 2006 by Mr. John Thompson, a volunteer from the UK. It was developed as a unique platform to train young girls and boys in English communication skills while simultaneously sensitising the public to the harsh realities of street life and the challenges faced by street-connected children.
City Walk empowers young people by building their confidence, self-esteem, and communication abilities. During the walks, trained youth guides share their personal journeys of resilience, freedom, and survival, offering participants a powerful and authentic perspective.
The programme amplifies children’s voices and allows visitors to experience their world through their eyes. Over the past 19 years, thousands of individuals have participated in City Walk, contributing to the empowerment of many children and supporting their journey towards mainstream life. Today, City Walk has become one of the Trust’s most impactful and widely recognised programmes.
